NaNoWriMo is the National Novel Writing Month. Every November writers all over the world sit down and stare at a blank page - for hours. The amount of energy produced by this mental wheel-spinning will keep the Earth rotating for another 12 months.
Not really.
But, Lordy, it feels like it. The route I have used in the last 5 or so NaNoWriMo events had been to just get it out. Don't stop for spelling. Don't stop for grammar. Get the idea out of your head and onto the page.
And it still never comes out of your head the way you think it will. No matter. Get it down. You'll clean it up later.
It's just like going a Viking - pillage first, THEN burn. To everyone participating - keep going! To anyone thinking of joining us - C'mon in. The coffee's fine.

Yes! Thank you for this encouraging reminder to just get it down!
Thank you so much. I'm wondering where the piece above will end up. It's fascinating to see how drafts mature. Keep writing.
Write the words.... this is what I tell my creative writing kids.
